Mégane Coulon is an Assistant Professor of African History at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on the legacies of coerced labor, social history, and the cultural influences of Africa and the African diaspora in nineteenth-century colonial Sierra Leone. Her forthcoming book, Mobility, Belonging and Identity in Freetown during the Era of Abolition, examines Freetown as a diverse and dynamic urban world in which multiple populations negotiated identity, belonging, mobility, and opportunity. She has contributed to British Library’s Endangered Archives Programme projects EAP782 and EAP1366, and she is currently the Principal Investigator of a UCLA Library’s Modern Endangered Archives Program project: Digitizing Records of Governance in 20th-Century Sierra Leone, which seeks to preserve and make accessible historically significant archival records documenting governance and society in Sierra Leone. She progressed from research assistant to coordinator and director of the Freedom Narratives project.
